Health and Safety Risk Assessments in Kent

Site-specific workplace risk assessments for Kent SMEs, carried out on site by a NEBOSH-qualified consultant. Clear, practical documents that meet your legal duties and that your team will actually use.

Why your business needs a risk assessment

Every employer has a legal duty to assess the risks to their employees and anyone else affected by their work, under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. If you employ five or more people, the significant findings must be written down.

Even for smaller businesses, a written risk assessment is strongly recommended as evidence of due diligence. Clients, main contractors and SSIP schemes such as CHAS, SMAS and SafeContractor will usually ask to see one, and it's one of the first documents an inspector or insurer will want after an incident.

What a good risk assessment covers

A risk assessment isn't a form to fill in. It's a practical look at what could cause harm in your workplace and whether you're doing enough to prevent it. We look at:

  • Your actual activities and premises. What your team really does day to day, on site, in the warehouse, the workshop or the office.
  • The hazards. For example machinery, vehicles, work at height, manual handling, hazardous substances, electricity, slips and trips.
  • Who could be harmed and how. Employees, contractors, visitors, members of the public, and anyone at particular risk.
  • What you already do. The controls you have in place, so the assessment reflects how your business really works.
  • What else is needed. Practical, proportionate actions, prioritised so you know what to do first.

How it works

  1. Free consultation. We talk through your business, your premises and what you need the assessment for.
  2. Site visit. We come to you, walk round your premises and talk to the people who do the work.
  3. Written risk assessment. A clear, site-specific document recording the hazards, the risks and your controls. No generic templates.
  4. Action plan. A prioritised list of any improvements, in plain English.
  5. Review. Risk assessments should be reviewed regularly and whenever something significant changes. We can review and update yours as your business grows.

Health and safety and fire risk assessments together

A fire risk assessment is a separate legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, but it covers the same premises and many of the same people. Because ISOHS carries out both, we can assess your workplace in one visit and give you two clear documents that work together.

Your risk assessments also form part of a wider health and safety system, and they feed directly into ISO 45001 if you're working towards certification.

Why ISOHS

  • NEBOSH qualified in health and safety and fire.
  • Site-specific, never templates. Every assessment is written around your premises and your activities.
  • Plain English. Documents your team can read, understand and follow.
  • Independent and local. Based in Kent, with on-site visits across the county.

Risk assessment: common questions

Do I need a written risk assessment?

Risk assessments are a legal requirement for employers and must be documented where five or more people are employed. Even for smaller businesses, a written risk assessment is strongly recommended as evidence of due diligence.

Is a fire risk assessment the same thing?

No. A fire risk assessment is a separate legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. We carry out both, and can do them in the same visit.

How often should a risk assessment be reviewed?

Regularly, and whenever something significant changes, such as new equipment, new premises, new activities or after an incident.

Can you use a template to keep the cost down?

We don't use generic templates. A risk assessment only protects you if it reflects what actually happens in your workplace, so every assessment we write is site-specific.

How much does a risk assessment cost?

It depends on the size of your premises and the type of work you do. We give you a clear quote after the free consultation, before any work starts.
